4 Quick Breakfast Ideas That Get You Out the Door in a Hurry

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Whether that is true or not I am not sure these days, especially for adults (not for children). That said, I do believe, if you are going to eat breakfast you need to get something healthy in your body.  White toast, most cereals and PopTarts simply don't fit that bill.

So here are a few ideas that are fast, filling and healthy:
1. Oatmeal – Especially if you are eating Steel Cut Oats, oatmeal can makes a warm meal that contains lots of filling fiber.  I recommend fixing a BIG pot at the beginning of the week and storing it in the fridge.  Put some toppings, like dried fruit, coconut, and nuts into covered containers and the family can customize their own breakfast.

2. Fruit Smoothies – Most kids and adults alike love fruit smoothies  Chop up a ton of fruit like bananas, melon, strawberries, etc. (great for fruit that is getting brown and on the way out) and freeze it.  I even freeze apples, pears, plums, and sometimes will throw in veggies like avocado, zucchini, spinach and kale even thought those are not typical smoothie flavors, they still taste good in small amounts.  In the morning, combine the fruits (and veggies) with water, milk or juice and blend.  I recommend a good Whey Protein Powder as an addition.  This helps balance the smoothie with some protein.

3. Egg Sandwiches or Tacos – Cook up a big batch of scrambled eggs and combine with ham or bacon pieces on the weekend.  Bag up individual portions and freeze.  Pull out of the freezer as needed and microwave for around 30 seconds or until warm.  Toast up some bread or warm a tortilla. Sprinkle on a little cheese and make a sandwich or taco.  You are good to go, out the door.

4. Yogurt Parfaits – Buy a big container of vanilla yogurt (my fav is the full fat Greek yogurt) to keep in the fridge.  Put out a little buffet of the frozen fruit you chopped for smoothies or dried fruit, nuts and some granola.  Let your family create their own Yogurt Parfait.

With a tiny bit of prep these are are all easily solutions to heading out the door with a full belly in the morning and you might even hear a few less complaints from the kiddos that they are tired of cereal.
